Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor

I have had an extensive career in mental health counseling. After getting my master’s degree in Psychology in 1994, I began my career as a counselor in wilderness-based treatment programs for children and adolescents. Over the next eleven years, I coordinated and managed the counseling departments in multiple treatment centers and facilitated group and individual counseling for children, adolescents, and their families. I returned to school in 2004, earning a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision with a strong desire to mentor and train counselors in the art of helping others. Since 2008, I have worked as a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and currently serve as the Program Director for the Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. In addition, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Wisconsin, working with a small caseload and provide ongoing supervision for counseling professionals.

As a counselor, I have direct experience with teenagers, families, and couples. While my experience with adolescents is where I initially learned the counseling process, I now have tremendous experience working with adults. My goal with any client is first to help them understand themselves at a deeper level and then find the resources to achieve their goals in life.

My specialty is my ability to understand and relate to people. I have worked with hundreds of people with complex backgrounds and problems during my career. These experiences have helped me understand people at a very deep level, and I am able to use this knowledge to help my clients find more connection, purpose, and meaning in life.​
